How service founders can win higher-paying clients
Stop selling hours. Target clients who value outcomes, and productise your service into clear packages with fixed scope and price. It raises deal size and makes selling easier.

Short answer: target clients for whom your result is worth a lot, and sell that result as a fixed package rather than by the hour.
The hourly trap
Hourly billing caps your income at the number of hours you can work, invites negotiation on every line item, and punishes you for getting faster. It also makes the client think about your time instead of their outcome.
Step 1: choose who you want to serve
Not every client is a good client. Look at your best past projects — where were clients happiest, paid fastest and referred others? That's your segment. Say no more often to everyone else.
Step 2: build packages
Package your service into two or three options with clear deliverables, a timeline and a price. For example, a design studio might offer a brand starter, a full identity and a monthly retainer. Packages are easier to explain, easier to buy and easier to deliver consistently.
Step 3: sell the outcome
In every conversation, talk about the client's problem and the result after working with you. Price follows value — and value is what the client gains, not what it costs you to deliver.
Step 4: review every quarter
Track average deal size, close rate and how long payments take. Raise prices on packages that sell too easily.
